7 Beginner Mistakes That Ruin Your Slay the Spire 2 Run
Slay the Spire 2 is a game where one bad decision can end your run. Here are the 7 most common mistakes and how to fix them.
These mistakes cause ~80% of lost runs at Ascension 0-10. Fix them and your win rate will double.
Mistake #1: Picking Every Card Reward (Card Bloat)
The Fix: Skip card rewards aggressively. If the card doesnt advance your win condition, skip it. A 30-card deck with 10 good cards beats a 40-card deck with 10 good cards + 10 meh cards.
Mistake #2: Not Pathing for Elites
The Fix: Path for at least 2 elites per Act. Elites give relics. Relics win runs. 2 elites per Act minimum.
Mistake #3: Upgrading Strikes and Defends
The Fix: Only upgrade your win-condition cards. Strikes and Defends are temporary cards. Upgrading them just makes a mediocre card slightly less mediocre.
Mistake #4: Ignoring AOE (Area of Effect)
The Fix: Make sure you have at least 2 AOE cards by Act 2. Ironclad: Cleave, Immolate. Silent: Bouncing Flask. Defect: Sweeping Beam. Watcher: Tantrum.
Mistake #5: Not Managing HP Between Fights
The Fix: Heal to >70% HP before every boss. Use campfires for healing (not upgrading) if youre below 50% HP.
Mistake #6: Playing Cards Just Because You Have Energy
The Fix: Only play cards that advance your win condition. If you have 2 energy left and no good cards, just dont play anything. Block with your face. Live to fight next turn.
Mistake #7: Not Reading Enemy Intent
The Fix: Look at enemy intent every turn. If theyre attacking for 25, block 25. If theyre defending, use that turn to set up your engine.
Summary: Skip more cards. Path for elites. Upgrade the right cards. Bring AOE. Manage HP. Dont play bad cards. Read enemy intent. Do these 7 things and your win rate goes from 20% to 50%.
