Slay the Spire 2 Complete Pathing Guide (How to Read the Map)
Pathing is the most underrated skill in Slay the Spire 2. The path you take determines 70% of your win probability.
How to Read the Map Room Types
Elite Room (Skull Icon)
High reward (relic or 25-50 gold, 3 card choices). Path for at least 2 elites per Act. Relics win runs.
Campfire (Fire Icon)
Choose: Rest (heal 30% max HP) or Upgrade (1 card) or Remove (1 card for 50-75 gold). At A20, rest sites are removed.
Shop (Bag Icon)
Merchant. Buy cards, relics, potions. Remove cards (75 gold). Always path for at least 1 shop per Act.
Event Room (? Icon)
Random event. Can give relics, gold, or damage you. High variance. Path through if at full HP. Avoid if below 50% HP.
Optimal Pathing by Act
Act 1 (The Foundation)
Optimal Path: Elite Elite Treasure Campfire(Upgrade) Boss.
- Why 2 elites? 2 relic chances. Act 1 relics enable your entire run.
- Why Treasure? Free relic. No reason to skip.
Act 2 (The Gauntlet)
Optimal Path: Elite Shop(Remove) Elite Campfire(Upgrade) Boss.
- Why Shop? Card removal. By Act 2, your deck has 5-10 Strikes/Defends that need to go.
Act 3 (The End Game)
Optimal Path: Shop(Buy HP potions) Elite Campfire(Upgrade scaling) Boss.
- Only 1 Elite: Act 3 elites hit hard. Dont get greedy.
Common Pathing Mistakes
- Taking the shortest path: Shortest path = fewest rewards = underpowered run.
- Avoiding elites: Elites are hard but the relic reward is almost always worth it.
- Not removing cards at shops: Card removal is the most underutilized mechanic.
- Resting at every campfire: 1 rest per Act is enough. The rest should be upgrades.
Pro Tip: If you see a path with 2 elites + 1 shop + 1 campfire, thats the dream path. Take it.
